This project diverted wastewater from the existing North Outfall Sewer (NOS) in Avenue 18 and Humboldt Street to the existing Northeast Interceptor Sewer (NEIS) Humboldt Drop Structure in Humboldt Street near San Fernando Road.
The proposed NOS Diversion Humboldt between Avenue 18 and San Fernando Road project constructed approximately 720 linear feet of 48" diameter PVC lined RCP pipe in tunnel, including tunneling shafts. The propose sewer alignment was in Humboldt Street from Avenue 18 to approximately 87 feet west of San Fernando Road.
This project also included the following work items:
1. Installation of approximately 7 linear feet of 60" diameter PVC lined RCP sewer pipe to connect to NEIS Humboldt
Drop Structure.
2. Construction of appurtenant sewer structures, i.e., a diversion structure, a junction structure, and a special
maintenance hole.
3. Tunnel shafts closure:
Construction of sewer structures (diversion, junction, MH, etc.) at the tunnel shafts as soon as all proposed sewers
connecting to said structures were installed. After structure construction, the team immediately removed shoring, backfill
shafts, restore streets to traffic and completely demobilize from location.
4. Groundwater Control:
COLICH CONSTRUCTION developed a groundwater dewatering plan to achieve the necessary dewatering required for
construction.
5. Pre-Excavation Grouting
Prior to tunnel excavation in the reach specified in the Contract Drawings, the COLICH CONSTRUCTION performed
pre-excavation grouting in order to stabilize the surrounding area around the NOS.
